Alabama State University Fun Facts
- Alabama State University was founded in 1867 by nine former slaves. It began as the Lincoln School in Marion, Ala., and moved to Montgomery, Ala., in 1887, where it was established as a leading producer of African-American teachers.
- Jo Ann Robinson(professor of English at ASU and president of the Women’s Political Council) created and distributed protest material that fueled the bus boycott from ASU's campus.
- The first African American student to desegregate Auburn University’s campus was an ASU graduate.
